Luis Troyano was a 48 years old beekeeper and trained graphic designer. He was a finalist on series 5 of The Great British Bake Off. He became known for his ingenious designs and achieved some of the most stunning bakes to ever grace the star of The Great British Bake Off tent.

Earlier Life, Career
Luis Troyano, a trained graphic designer, beekeeper, and baking obsessive, was a finalist on series 5 of The Great British Bake Off. He became known for his ingenious designs and achieved ‘some of the most stunning bakes to ever grace the Bake Off tent’.
Luis went on to find success, releasing his cookbook the following year and making more TV appearances. He also opened a bakery of his own, The Hive. In 2014, in his home town, Troyano opened his first bakery, called The Hive Bakery, and he was announced as the patron of the Beechwood Cancer Care Centre in 2015.
Wife, Family
He met his wife at college when he was 17, and the couple married in Las Vegas 17 years later. Luis writes a successful blog and runs baking courses at the Seasoned Cookery School in Derbyshire. He lives in Stockport, Manchester, with his wife.
In his memory, Luis’s wife Louise set up a JustGiving website, fundraising for MacMillan Cancer Support. She tweet, “Sadly, my lovely client lost his brave fight against Oesophageal cancer last week. A fantastic man with a love of baking that saw him get to the finals of GBBO, write a wonderful book, Bake It Great and do so much more. Always in our thoughts.”

Cause of Death
Luis Troyano has died from oesophageal cancer. He was 48.
Troyano’s agent Anne Kibel confirmed the season five contestant’s death on Twitter on Tuesday. “Sadly, my lovely client lost his brave fight against Oesophageal cancer last week. A fantastic man with a love of baking that saw him get to the finals of GBBO, write a wonderful book, Bake It Great and do so much more. Always in our thoughts.”
