Police in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has described a harrowing murder case, in which a local woman is accused of fatally stabbing her 5-year-old son. The child’s body was found face down in a bathtub at their apartment, cops said in a CBS report. Defendant Jennifer is now in custody in the death of Devon Joseph.
Authorities say the child’s father discovered the victim on Monday right after 10 p.m.
“He was able to take the son out of the tub before police arrived and when medics arrived the boy was unresponsive,” Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said. Medical performed CPR in a bid to save him, but it was to no avail. The child was pronounced dead right after 11 p.m. at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Now his mother must contend with allegations that she is responsible for his death.
Investigation
On Monday at 10:10 p.m., Philadelphia police were called to an apartment on the 4800 block of Pine Street. When they arrived they found 5-year-old Devon Joseph unresponsive in a tub of water with what appeared to be a cut to his neck.

Devon’s mother, Jennifer Joseph, was found in a nearby bedroom bleeding from self-inflicted lacerations to her wrist, police said.
The mom and son were alone at the apartment at the time, police said. The boy’s father and Joseph’s husband told police he found his wife cutting her wrist in the bedroom.
The boy was taken to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia where he was pronounced dead at 1:03 p.m.
Investigators called the incident a homicide and an attempted suicide.
Jennifer Joseph was taken to the Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center where she was listed in stable condition and guarded as a prisoner. On Wednesday, she was officially charged with murder.
Officials say Devon Joseph’s father found him lying face down in the bathtub of their West Philadelphia apartment with a stab wound to the neck, on the 4800 block of Pine Street, on Oct. 12 just after 10 p.m.
“He was able to take the son out of the tub before police arrived and when medics arrived the boy was unresponsive,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.
Medics conducted CPR but were unable to save him. He was pronounced dead just after 11 p.m. at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Jennifer Joseph was observed in a nearby bedroom bleeding from self-inflicted lacerations to her wrist.
She was transported to Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center and placed in stable condition. Officials guarded her as a prisoner.
Homicide detectives are leading the investigation.
