According to reports, New York City-based dance artist Ari Gold has died at age 47.

Having just celebrated his birthday earlier this month, the death comes after a long battle with cancer.

Many have posted their condolences online.

Gold had a battle with cancer and in late 2019 was declared cancer-free. The same day he received that diagnosis he did an interview with RuPaul for his podcast called A Kiki From the Cancer Ward.

Career

Gold released seven albums as a part of his career. He released music as an out gay artist and started his career in the early 2000s.

He is best known for “Where the Music Takes You,” which featured Sasha Allen. His music video “Wave of You,” released in 2004 was the first video by an out LGBTQ+ artist to world-premiere on Logo according to Boy Culture.

He went by names like Sir Ari and GoldNation in addition to Ari Gold.

Modeling

Gold appeared in fashion magazines such as W and VIBE, for which he was photographed by Walter Chin, and chosen as one of the Stylistics in the January 2002 issue.

He was named one of “The 9 Hottest Men in NYC” by H/X magazine and one of the hottest men in the world by DNA magazine.

After interviewing and photographing Gold for AXM magazine, Boy George chose him to be the spokesmodel for his clothing line RUDE.

Eight-time Emmy winner RuPaul paid tribute to his ‘dear friend’ – singer-dancer Ari Gold – after he passed away, 47, following a battle with leukaemia.

‘Lovely, Gentle Man @SirAriGold,’ the 60-year-old drag icon – who boasts 7.7M, social media followers – tweeted on Sunday.

‘Until we meet again, dear friend. @SirAriGold Love always, Ru.’

Daytime Emmy Award winner Laverne Cox shared a montage in honour of the NYU grad, whom she’s known since the nineties.

‘So many people have come and gone from my life over the past 25 years but you have been a constant,’ the 48-year-old transgender trailblazer wrote via Instagram.

‘As I’ve grown and evolved, you evolved with me. The spiritual journey we’ve both been on has made it clear why we’ve remained in each other’s lives for so long. I’m so utterly devastated that you’ve moved on today.
