At the 2017 general election, the seat became marginal again with a general nationwide swing from the SNP towards unionist parties across Scotland. Gibson was re-elected with a reduced majority of 3,633 votes over the Conservative Party candidate, David Rocks.

Gibson first contested North Ayrshire & Arran in 2010, helping to make it the SNP’s fourth-most winnable seat in 2015, albeit with a still huge majority to overcome, which she did, with a 23.3% swing; securing a 13,573 majority over the sitting Labour MP, Katy Clark.

She taught English for over twenty years in Glasgow, Lanarkshire and East Renfrewshire and for five years, served as SNP Education Spokesperson on Glasgow City Council; representing Greater Pollok Ward as a councillor for five years from 2007–12.

Patricia Gibson (born 12 May 1968) is a Scottish National Party (SNP) politician. She has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for North Ayrshire and Arran since winning the seat at the 2015 general election.
